Shrink wrap for dresses?

So….  remember when I posted about the bridesmaid dress that was too small?  I had real concerns at the time that perhaps fitting into the dress I purchased would be a nearly-failing battle.

As it turns out, the dress is now falling off me in all the places that count.  As in, by the time October arrives, it will be grossly too big.  I’m considering taking the dress back to its source at J. Crew and having them do the necessary alterations, though I have a local alterations person who i’ve liked.  However, she isn’t huge and corporate and someone I’d feel comfortable with making do all the work over again if it for some reason comes back with a fatal flaw, whereas J. Crew knows their dresses and can afford to suck up a few dollars re-doing their own work if it comes back with a broken zipper or crooked seam.

Hmm.

Man, that’s insane. I am not sure what I would do. I might put it off till the last possible minute, in fear that as soon as you get it taken in, you’ll get bloaty or something, you know?

yeah, my current plan is to take it to wherever I’m taking it in mid-october, so that i’ll have it back by end of october. and then wedding is in early November. I can’t do too much damage in just one week. One hopes.

Bridesmaid dresses are impossible to figure out. I was in a wedding when Davey was 3 months old, so I had to order the dress when I was 7 months pregnant. I didn’t know what to do because I obviously couldn’t get measurements. So, the women told me to measure my bust and order the size that indicated. That didn’t work either because the dress ended up being too tight on my bust because of nursing, and much to big everywhere else. I hate dresses.

I highly recommend my seamstress. Being in a bridal shop, she had tons of experience with bridesmaids dresses. I also recommend an appointment as she’s always in demand:
