80s-tastic

It is an instructional video featuring Donna Mills (??) explaining how to “turn heads” and “feel sexy” through the power of perfectly applied makeup.
Not only were these hilarious (her “bare” face included eyeliner! Her “business” attire was a gold satin dress with padded shoulders!) but they were quite instructional. More or less what to not EVER do – with the exception of her one rational mantra: “Blend, blend, blend.” Great advice, even today. Dark eyeliner on a “natural make-up” day, not so much.
Elusion and I took it as a challenge. We followed her instructions to see if we looked and felt as sexy as she said we would. I followed them step for step, word for word, and you can see my results.
Truthfully, I think I’ve failed to recreate the 80s on my face. To even get close, I had to pull out the big guns (the giant pigtails.) Either people have genetically mutated away from the 80s, or the actual problem wasn’t makeup application, back then, it was the quality of actual cosmetic products available at the time.
Anyway, despite feeling as though I failed Donna Mills, I have nonetheless scared my husband. And entertained Nicole. (I think that if we had gone to high school together, we probably would have been voted “Most Likely to Have a Virtual Slumber Party Doing 80s Makeup at Age 30.” But only because… well, we kind of actually have done it now.)
I think the expression in this last photo was most 80s out of everything I did.

I think you did a helluva job! And, I dunno, I don’t think it looks so bad even in 2008 – maybe it’s more eyeliner than you’d normally wear, but it looks kinda hot & dramatic

I think you needed blue eyeshadow to go with the cotton candy pink lip gloss… Unless that’s not the 80′s you were going for.

That video was…special. My god. I feel a need to share it with someone, if only to share the burden of the horror, but I don’t know who.
I LOVE how in the second video, her “natural makeup” makes her look like a redneck child beauty pageant contestant.
