Go Honey!!
I made two decisions in mid October: Stop drinking soda and start spinning classes. The stupid fires (stress and not being able to breath all that well) pushed real start date to mid-november, but it's going well. I have a diet soda a couple times a week. And I stared water delivery to work, which helps immensely. I found a couple spinning instructors that I really like and twice a week isn't too tough to get to. (Of course the new years resolution people are driving me crazy right now. I wasn't able to get a bike last night.) I know these things sound small. But if I try to do too much at once, it never works. So I picked these two small things to do. Another thing happened that helped too. Around the same time, I re-joined the CSA. I split it with Lucas and Jackie. So now I always have fresh vegies in the house. I can't use the 'I have no food' excuse and go get take-out. So, since the middle of november, I've lost 7 pounds. Not that impressive for two months. But since those two months included Thanksgiving and Christmas, I'm quite pleased with it.
I think the goals you're setting for yourself are great!! I would just say one thing. It's ok to say that in January you'll work out at least twice a week. Get used to that change in your schedule. In february, get yourself up to three times a week. Etc. The more I try to change at once, the greater the chance that I burn out. I'm now very comfortable with the two small changes I've made. They're not hard anymore. So now I'm on the lookout for a couple more small changes to make. I'm trying to move towards a smaller but more protein filled breakfast. And I'm trying to get my exercise up to 4 times a week by adding yoga and/or more spinning. Not there yet on either of them. But working on it :)
Once the weather warms up, we should get biking again on weekends. I miss that!!
Keep on rocking.

Awesome, awesome, awesome... if you want to do the triathlon, in October, that I did last year, that could be fun... swim, bike, run - there's a super sprint too - so 1/4 of the Olympic distance - long enough to be a good thing... and short enough to do an easier training cycle... lemme know if you're interested. I'm going to be signing up for the swim leg of a bunch of them - like five of them - maybe I'm psycho!

You rock, Mama Cheryl... I'm glad you're coming into your own. I like all the different metaphors you used - western, boating, etc... Fun times!!
